On July 14, health authorities in Colorado confirmed four cases of avian flu colorado in poultry workers, with a fifth suspected case under investigation. The avian flu in Colorado has raised concerns as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that human infections with avian flu can lead to severe illness and potentially trigger a pandemic if the virus evolves to spread easily among people.
The Colorado public health department announced that the CDC has verified four of the cases, with the fifth awaiting confirmation. The CDC is actively supporting the ongoing investigation.
“A fifth worker’s sample tested presumptive positive at the state laboratory on Saturday and will be sent to the CDC for confirmation,” the department stated.
The affected workers exhibited mild symptoms, including conjunctivitis (pink-eye) and respiratory issues. None required hospitalization.
